Greetings, Students and Families of Philomath Elementary School:
Although I know we need the rain, I am missing the wonderful sunshine that has graced us over the past few weeks. Such is spring in the State of Oregon!

I have attached a potentially fun activity for students and families to complete. This information is for you only and will not be returned to school. The Time Capsule is designed to collect information about your life during this time in our history. If you choose to complete it, consider hiding it away for five years, ten years, until you graduate from high school, or some other meaningful year. It might make for some interesting reading once you come back to it over time! There will also be some printed copies available at school if you would prefer.

Mi Cápsula del Tiempo

Friday, May 15th, will be a busy day at PES. There will be lots of items to be picked up and boxes for items to be returned. We will have some of our PES staff members here to help on Friday morning, beginning at 8:00am. As has happened in prior weeks, table will be moved into the vestibule, just inside the front door of the school, in the middle of the afternoon. Access will remain available until 6:00pm in the evening. If unable to pick up on Friday, you may come by on any other weekday to pick up materials between 8:30am-2:00pm or by appointment.

For those of you picking you your packets at Blodgett Elementary School, they will be waiting for you in the Blodgett gym on Monday, May 18th.

Packets This Week:
• 2nd Grade: School Work Packet, School Supplies, and Seed & Soil Ziploc for Science
• 3rd Grade: School Work Packet and School Supplies
• 4th Grade: School Work Packet and School Supplies
• 5th Grade: School Work Packet (Buchanan & Olson only), Student ID Card, and Padlock
Some students will also have materials available from Mrs. Bell, Mr. Blackman, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Dyer, Mrs. Haldeman, Mrs. Johnson, and/or Mrs. Starr. These staff members have contacted families for whom these materials will be available.

Homework Return:
There will boxes under each table, labeled with teacher names. Any work to be returned to teachers should be placed in these boxes. Return boxes will be available for all grade-level classroom teachers, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Gruver, Mr. Meeker, and Mr. Rath. Teachers will retrieve materials next week to review and provide feedback to students.

Celebrate Your Birthday!:
I know that each of you are continuing to receive a birthday card and ribbon during the week of your birthday. We don’t want to forget these special days! For those of you who have celebrated birthdays since the school has been closed, you have not had the opportunity to get your birthday book… until now!

We will have a table with birthday book selections. Feel free to take one home to keep in your personal library. This is available for the following students:
•Students celebrating a birthday while school was in session, however forgot to pick up their book OR
•Students who have celebrated or will celebrate a birthday between March 16th and June 13th.

SMART Reading Students:
Good news for our students participating in the SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) Reading Program! Each of you will have books waiting for you to take home to keep in your personal library. Teachers are helping to pick out books that we hope you will enjoy.

Lost and Found:
We will have tables out for the next few weeks displaying items in our 'Lost & Found'. If missing any items, please feel free to review items and retrieve what belongs to your child(ren).

Library Books:
Does your student have any school library books at home? If so, we will have a collection box at the school to collect these items by Friday, May 15th.

5th Grade Students:
Just a few updates for our 5th grade students and families…
Two things are currently in the planning stages for you.

We appreciate you and your continued efforts. We know that families are working so very hard to keep students learning and growing. Keep taking walks following a good rainfall or spend some time smelling the roses. All of these moments are necessary for all.

Still learning together—
Susan
