What a beautiful day today! I am hoping to get out for a walk soon to soak up some sunshine. To compensate for the numerous virtual meetings— which I know many of you understand—I should be doing all the activities on Mr. Rath’s PE calendar each day! Today would include Inchworms following my walk.
Packets This Week:
Packets will be available for pick-up this Friday, May 8th. Tables will be set up in front of PES, beginning at 8:00am. Tables will be moved into the vestibule, just inside the front door of the school, in the early afternoon. Materials will remain available until 6:00pm in the evening. If unable to pick up on Friday, you may come by any other weekday to pick up materials between 8:30am-2:00pm or by appointment.
There will be fewer available packets this week.
• 2nd Grade: No Packets This Week
• 3rd Grade: Packets for All Classrooms This Week
• 4th Grade: No Packets This Week
• 5th Grade: No Packets This Week
Some students will also have materials available from Mrs. Bell, Mr. Blackman, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Haldeman, Mrs. Johnson, and/or Mrs. Starr. These staff members have contacted families for whom these materials will be available.
Notes from Mr. Rath:
Supplemental activities for the upcoming week are...[in Mr. Rath's tab on the sidebar.]
Notes from Mr. Meeker:
Mr. Meeker has been crafting assignments for each of you. A number of you have been turning them in through Google Classroom. If you have paper copies, please return them to Mr. Meeker's box at the school.
Mr. Meeker is also asking students involved with the Recorder Group to return the school-owned recorders as soon as you can. Please return them directly to the school office.
Homework Return:
There will boxes under each table, labeled with teacher names. Any work to be returned to teachers should be placed in these boxes. Return boxes will be available for all grade-level classroom teachers, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Coleman, Mrs. Gruver, Mr. Meeker, and Mr. Rath. Teachers will retrieve materials next week to review and provide feedback to students.
Celebrate Your Birthday!:
I know that each of you are continuing to receive a birthday card and ribbon during the week of your birthday. We don’t want to forget these special days! For those of you who have celebrated birthdays since the school has been closed, you have not had the opportunity to get your birthday book… until now!
During the upcoming Friday's, we will have a table with birthday book selections. Feel free to take one home to keep in your personal library. This is available for the following students:
•Students celebrating a birthday while school was in session, however forgot to pick up their book OR
•Students who have celebrated or will celebrate a birthday between March 16th and June 13th.
SMART Reading Students:
Good news for our students participating in the SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) Reading Program! Either this week or next, each of you will have books waiting for you to take home to keep in your personal library. Teachers are helping to pick out books that we hope you will enjoy.
Lost and Found:
We will have tables out for the next few weeks displaying items in our 'Lost & Found'. If missing any items, please feel free to review items and retrieve what belongs to your child(ren). School Supplies:
All school supplies and items from student desks will be available for Pick-up on Friday, May 15th. All items will be bagged and placed on the Pick-Up table in front of the school on that day.
All Philomath schools will be clearing out student desks and lockers during the week of May 11-15. If you need to collect items from PES earlier during that week, in order to coordinate your supply pick-up to a single day across all schools, please simply let us know. We will be happy to have it ready for you.
Library Books:
Does your student have any school library books at home? If so, we will have a collection box at the school to collect these items by Friday, May 15th.
5th Grade Students:
Just a few updates for our 5th grade students and families…
Two things are currently in the planning stages for you.
➢5th Grade Celebration
Since we cannot all be together, we are planning a virtual celebration to honor our current 5th grade students. We cannot let this important milestone go by without some form of recognition. Stay tuned for additional information.
➢6th Grade Orientation
Philomath Middle School is making plans for 5th Grade Orientation this spring, to be scheduled for later in May. Coupled with a few lessons conducted by Mr. Panico, Philomath Middle School Counselor, and Mrs. Williams, PES Counselor, this video event will share additional information about your move to Philomath Middle School in the fall. Additional information will follow soon.
Thanks for all you are continuing to do with and for your children. We appreciate you! Please remember to take time to relax and breathe… or do the Inchworm—through this extended time. It is important to maintain a positive sense of well-being and goodness. As always, please do not hesitate to contact me with questions, comments, and/or concerns.
Still learning together—
Susan
